22 Jan 2018: The day the application opened
I always loved the idea of working a Disney but never knew when the "right" opportunity would occur. I was familiar with the DCP but I was never the person whose life dream was to do this program (I didn't even know there were Face Book pages for aspiring cast members till months after my offer). Honestly in a whim I applied for the program. And I knew there were positions I absolutely did not want. (cough cough, quick service food and bev). I had already filled out the application for previous seasons but never hit submit. So finally the day the application opened for fall 2018, I hit submit. Within an hour I received the web- based interview. I figured this was normal (I later found out it was not lol). I passed the web-based interview and passes it. IF YOU DON'T PASS IT YOU'RE AN IDIOT!!! It's a personality test , which I hate. All you have to do is answer what the company wants to hear. No one openly responds to a personality test describing themselves as always late.... Anyways I scheduled my phone interview for a week later. 30 Jan 2018: The phone interview.. don don donnnnn Well they called me and I answered all the questions they had for me about my past work experience and scenarios about the positions I selected. Honestly it went really well. I thought if I was going to get hired I would be hired as a lifeguard because I was a lifeguard for 2 years at a water park in Ohio (i;m also Jay Ellis trained, like Disney guards). The interview ended with her telling me I probably won't hear back from them until end of March beginning of April. Tips: RELAX!!! you don't need to do research on the questions they'll ask. Just be passionate and bubbly. They say they can hear you smiling through the phone! Most of February: The waiting period Honestly I kinda forgot about the application most of the time. I didn't check my dashboard regularly or look to see when offers were being sent out. My good friend who applied a few days after me was still stuck in submission and she pretty much believed she wasn't going to get a web interview. This was really the only thing about the program in my mind I figured I wouldn't hear back for a few months and I had plenty of things going on at school to keep myself occupied. 20 Feb 2018: The offer Like I said I never checked my Disney dashboard. For some reason this day the girl sitting in front of me in class was on the college program web page, so I checked my dashboard and nothing had changed. About an hour later in another class I got an email from Disney recruiting saying CONGRATULATIONS! you've been accepted for fall 2018! At first I was in shock and took a screenshot of the email on my phone and sent it to my parents and close friends. I quickly read the my job offer and description. I had been accepted into attractions! This was a huge surprise because I didn't talk much about attractions in the interview. My immediate reaction was "I only have 3 days to decide if I want to uproot my life and move to Disney, I need more time than that". Pretty much spent the rest of the day over thinking all my options. Do I leave the position I held in my sorority?? Do I postpone graduation and my career for this?? Do I actually want to live in Florida for 4 months?? be gone for Thanksgiving and Christmas?? Throughout the whole day of contemplating I final decided I was accepting the offer. Afterwards: The next steps Official arrival date was selected for 8/2. Finally got my ass on the Face Book page Found 5 incredible roommates Found the possible love of my life?? (Who knows?? stay tuned) Started to research my position and watch endless DCP youtube videos And now we wait for new hire paperwork and itineraries to get sent out. (and i'm hella inpatient) (And my friend got her interviews and acceptance after I go mine) |
